Alter Ego

Production Process

During preliminary research towards this project we exhibited a rough ‘work in progress’ demonstration of Alter Ego at Kettle’s Yard gallery in Cambridge. For this we used a generic 3D model with a face already texture mapped onto it. The model was taught to mimic some basic expressions: smile, frown and surprise, in real time. Despite the fact that it was very primitive, we were surprised at the extent of audience engagement with this demo. version of the work. It was interesting to note the way that people began to mimic the face that was mimicking them – even here a kind of dialogue of facial expression was initiated.
